Hello Jasmine! First of all, can you tell us about your journey as an artist? How did you discover your passion for art, and what led you to pursue it professionally?
I have always had a passion for art growing up and studied art during school. However, it was during the pandemic when I created an Instagram account and decided to start posting my art online. During lockdown I was studying for my degree in Business Management and Marketing at home, and had more free time on my hands to start a small business. My art gained popularity online and I started to sell to collectors across the globe. Fast forward a few years later, I graduated from University, went travelling and decided to take a risk and pursue a career in art. Travelling made me adopt a much more open minded and ambitious approach to life, it was the perfect time in my life to take a risk and pursue my dream.
Your recent collections experiment with the juxtaposition of realism over abstract. Could you elaborate on this artistic style and how it reflects your personal vision and perspective?
I discovered this art style through deliberate exploration and experimentation, ultimately finding it to be a perfect reflection of my personality. With its blend of detailed realism and abstract elements, it captures both my organised, structured side and my desire for spontaneity and adventure. This balance resonates deeply with me, as I appreciate both the comfort of familiarity and the excitement of pushing boundaries.
Travel and nature seems to play a significant role in your life and art. How has exploring different cultures and landscapes influenced your artistic vision and storytelling? Can you share some specific instances where these experiences directly influenced your creative process?
Traveling and immersing myself in diverse cultures and landscapes have greatly shaped my artistic vision and storytelling. Each journey offers a unique perspective, infusing my art with varied narratives and inspirations. For instance, last summer I travelled to Turkey which left a profound impact on me, particularly the coastal regions with their lush greenery and swaying palms. This experience directly inspired the ‘Tropical Palms’ collection, where I sought to capture the tranquillity and vibrancy of these landscapes through dynamic brushstrokes and vivid colours. By incorporating elements from my travels into my art, I aim to share the beauty of nature and cultures with others, inviting them to embark on their own journeys of exploration and discovery.
You mentioned that your work aims to inspire others to live beyond societal norms. How do you see art as a vehicle for societal change or personal transformation?
My aim is for my story and artwork to inspire people to break free from societal norms, particularly the traditional corporate lifestyle, and pursue their dreams. I want to encourage others to embrace adventure and push boundaries. Through my work, I strive to serve as a source of inspiration, showing that it’s possible to live authentically and follow one’s passions, even if it means deviating from the expected path. By sharing my own journey of taking risks and pursuing my artistic dreams, I hope to empower others to embark on their own paths of self-discovery and fulfilment.
Can you walk us through your creative process? From initial inspiration to the finished piece, what steps do you take, and how do you navigate challenges or creative blocks along the way?
My creative process begins with gathering inspiration, often centred around a thematic collection such as flora, tropical, or abstract concepts. I enjoy creating mood boards to visually map out my ideas, incorporating elements like colour palettes, botanical references, textures, and marks. Once I have a clear direction, I prepare the canvas by applying texture paste and white gesso to prime the surface, creating a foundation for my work.
From there, I dive into layering materials. Typically, I start with acrylics for the background and gradually build upon it. One technique I particularly enjoy is combining spray paint with heavy-body acrylics, using a palette knife to create rich textures and depth. This process allows me to play with light and shadow, adding dimension and visual interest to the piece.
Throughout the creative journey, I encounter challenges and creative blocks like any artist. When faced with these obstacles, I find it helpful to step away from the studio, perhaps engage in other creative activities or simply take a walk outdoors to clear my mind. Returning with a fresh perspective often helps me overcome hurdles and find new inspiration.

Congratulations on being featured in British Vogue! It’s truly a remarkable achievement. What were your initial thoughts when you learned that your art would be featured in such a prestigious publication? And how has this recognition influenced your career trajectory and the exposure of your art?
Being featured in British Vogue was a monumental achievement for me, as it’s one of the largest magazines in the industry. It felt incredibly honouring to have my art showcased on such a prestigious platform. The experience has allowed me to introduce my work to a broader audience, reaching individuals beyond my usual social media connections. It’s been a fantastic opportunity to share my art with a diverse and expansive audience.
Looking to the future, what are your aspirations for the growth and development of Jasmine Marshall Art? Are there any exciting projects or initiatives on the horizon that you can share with us?
I have so many plans for the future of Jasmine Marshall Art in terms of growth, I am working on some collaborations now which is exciting. In the future I would love to have my prints stocked in stores and branch more into retail. It would be great to create a limited-edition collection with a brand too! Plus, I am planning to look into solo art exhibitions as it would be lovely to create events for all my lovely collectors and have a space dedicated to showing my original pieces.
Considering your own journey as a self-representing artist, what advice would you give to artists who are just starting out and looking to establish themselves in the art world?
My biggest piece of advice is to start social media, particularly Instagram. There is a huge artist community over there and everyone is hugely supportive. Social media is such a great way to reach more people all over the globe and build connections with your audience- it can be an amazing marketing tool. Secondly, I would recommend to anyone looking to start selling their art to firstly start on a marketplace like Etsy, Etsy already has a huge amount of traffic, so it is a great way to start and avoid huge website costs. Lastly, I would say that you need to enjoy it! Keep experimenting and practicing and stay true to yourself work to develop your own artistic style which is authentic.

Music can be a powerful muse. Who are your favorite musicians?
I often mix between music and Netflix while in the studio, however I love listening to any upbeat pop songs which make me feel happy and energized. While painting the ‘Florals Blooms’ collection I loved listening to Take That too, a little bit of a throwback!
